Death anniversary of Swat journalist observed

Swat – Tributes were paid to senior journalist Siraj-ud Din (Shaheed), The Nation staffer, on the occasion of his 16th death anniversary which was observed here on Thursday.

Siraj-ud-Din, who worked as a Swat correspondent for The Nation and Nawa-i-Waqt Group, was killed in a suicide bomb attack in Mingora on 29 Feb 2008. He started his journalism career in 1983 with Daily Wahdat. He used to write for several national dailies including Daily Pakistan, The Muslim, The Frontier Post besides representing PTV in 1994. He was elected twice as vice-chairman and vice-president of Swat Press Club and Swat Union of Journalist respectively. He is one of the founders of Swat Press Club.

In this connection a ceremony was held at Swat Press Club. A large number of local journalists, Siraj-ud-Din’s relatives and elders of the area attended the ceremony and paid homage to Siraj-ud-din. They lauded his services as a journalist for 23 years.

Haroon Siraj, son of martyr Journalist said that he was proud of his father’s services adding that his father used media only for highlighting the problems and issues of public interest. Haroon complained that the PPP government in central and ANP at Provincial at that time announced compensation and government jobs but still the family of slain journalist deprived of any support pledged to them.

Later, they prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
