QUETTA: The leaders of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and different Balochistan Bar Associations have underlined the need to make the process of appointment of judges in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the High Courts fair and transparent.
They stressed that the process of judges’ appointment must be fair and transparent.
The leaders of different bar associations were addressing a joint press conference here at the High Court Bar Room on Wednesday.
The Member PBC Munir Ahmed Kakar said that the lawyers of Balochistan are on one page on the matter of judges’ appointment.
He said that the appointment of judges was made controversial in the 18th amendment.
He alleged that merit was violated by appointing the “blue-eyed” judges in the Supreme Court and High Courts.
The Member PBC pointed out that hundreds of thousands cases are pending in the courts all over the country.
More than 57,000 cases are pending in the Supreme Court only, Munir Ahmed Kakar mentioned.
He mentioned that the Chief Justice of Pakistan formed committee for amendment in the rules after the endeavours of representatives of lawyers and members of the Judicial Commission.
The Member PBC pleaded to the CJP not to make compromise on the principles.
He said that we reject the extension to be made for personal gains and interests.
He demanded to postpone the process of judges’ appointment in the Supreme and High courts of the country.
He said that there are talks about giving extension to the CJP Mr Justice Qazi Faez Isa, but we hope that he (CJP) would not get extension by following the constitution.
To a query, the Member PBC stressed that we have to sit together to put the country on right track.
He on the occasion condemned the baton charge used against the lawyers in Lahore.
He announced to observe boycott of courts’ proceedings against the Lahore incident.
He also opposed the move of government about fencing in Gwadar saying that the local population is affecting due to the fencing in port city.
The senior lawyer, Rahib Buledi said that we would never allow any individual to make amendment in the country’s Constitution.
