Yousuf Dewan Companies (YDC), Enercap and Burj Energy sign a Memorandum of Understanding to Launch Supercapacitor Batteries for Electric Motorcycles and Rickshaws in Pakistan

KARACHI, June 6, 2024 – Yousuf Dewan Companies (YDC), Enercap Power Industries LLC – Dubai (Enercap), and Burj Energy – Dubai have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at YDC head office, to collaborate on deploying advanced supercapacitor-based batteries for electric motorcycles and rickshaws manufactured by YDC Group in Pakistan.

Motorcycles and rickshaws are a popular means of transportation in Pakistan. Electric alternatives of these vehicles can reduce cost of transportation while addressing the increasing level of pollution in the country. Low performance yet high-cost batteries are one of the main reasons for their low adoption. This strategic partnership aims to offer electric motorcycles and rickshaws with supercapacitor batteries that have long life, low losses, do not degrade and, most importantly, are safe for consumers.
Dewan Muhammad Yousuf Farooqui, Chairman-YDC, stated, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Enercap and Burj Energy to bring advanced supercapacitor EV battery technology to Pakistan. This initiative will not only drive the adoption of electric vehicles but also support the country’s environmental goals.” YDC, a key player in Pakistan’s automotive sector, plans to incorporate supercapacitor EV battery technology into its two- and three-wheel electric vehicles, enhancing performance and sustainability.
Waseem Ashraf Qureshi, Inventor, CEO, Enercap Power Industries LLC, commented, “This MOU marks a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions in Pakistan’s automotive sector. Our advanced supercapacitor technology will enhance the performance, reliability and safety of electric vehicles, contributing to a greener future”. Enercap’s advanced EV batteries utilize an electrostatic storage process, eliminating the need for chemical electrolytes and ensuring less degradation over time for consistent performance and long lifespan. These batteries offer fast charging, and maintain performance across a wide temperature range. With no risk of thermal runaway, these are safer and fully recyclable, making them environmentally friendly. Supercapacitor batteries offer lowest lifecycle cost when compared to chemical alternatives.
Saad Zaman, CEO, Burj Energy, added, “Burj Energy is a strategic partner in Enercap and Burj Energy through its Burj Clean Energy Modaraba, a first of its kind and a listed green energy fund, will facilitate market adoption of these Energy Storage batteries in the EV market by offering innovative and Shariah compliant funding and rental options to promote electric motorcycles and rickshaws in Pakistan.”
This MOU signifies the commitment of YDC, Enercap and Burj Energy towards electric vehicles in Pakistan.
