Virus detected in 18 months old child: New polio case reported in Balochistan; tally of cases rise to five

QUETTA: Another polio case has been surfaced in Balochistan province increasing the tally of polio cases to five during the current year.
The Health Department sources informed that the new polio case has been reported from Killa Abdullah where the virus was detected in 18-months old child.
With this, the number of polio cases in Killa Abdullah increased to two while to five in Balochistan province.
Prior to this, polio cases had been reported from Dera Bugti, Killa Abdullah, Chaman and Quetta.
At the outset, six polio cases have so far been reported in Pakistan. One case was reported from Sindh this year.
It may be mentioned here that Balochistan remained polio free province in 2022 and 2023. Earlier, one polio case was reported in 2021 while record 26 cases had been reported in 2020.
Aggregately, a total of 59 cases of polio have been reported in Balochistan since 2015.
