Chaman, August 4, : Haji Imran Khan Kakar, former president of the Chaman Chamber of Commerce and a prominent trader, has urged Pakistan and Afghanistan to review the newly imposed taxes on trade. He warned that the increased taxes would affect the general public and lead to a rise in inflation.

In an interview, Kakar said that the fresh season of fruits and vegetables is only a few months long, but this year, traders are facing severe difficulties due to the new taxes imposed by both countries. He emphasized that the entire business community, as well as the general public, is suffering due to these taxes. Traders cannot import goods due to high taxes, and the poor cannot afford to buy them, as the prices skyrocket from 100 rupees to 500 rupees due to these taxes.

Kakar suggested that Pakistan should show flexibility in all matters with Afghanistan, as it is a newly formed country. This would lead to improved relations between the two countries and ease the import and export of essential items. He also stressed the need for policymakers to consult with local traders while formulating tax policies.
