Landikotal, Khyber District, August 17, 2024: The Torkham Custom Clearing Agents and Transport Unions have warned of a nationwide wheel-jam strike from August 22 if temporary tokens are not issued for cargo vehicles without Trade Data Entry (TDE) documents.

Addressing a press conference at the Landikotal Press Club, the union leaders, including Majeedullah Shinwari, Aimal Shinwari, Haji Azimullah, and Yousaf Afridi, expressed their concerns about the collapse of trade at the Torkham border due to the implementation of the TDE policy. They emphasized their desire for a soft policy that benefits the national exchequer, traders, and transporters.

The leaders criticized the daily changes in policies at the Torkham border, which have led to a significant decline in trade activities. They mentioned that the number of export-import vehicles has decreased from over 2,000 to barely 500.

The unions have demanded that the government allow cargo vehicles to cross the border with temporary tokens until August 22, failing which they will launch a nationwide protest.
