The significance of motorways is pivotal to modern era’s transportation system. However, in Pakistan, motorways have gradually emerged to be the preferred mode of drugs trafficking. Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTOs) exploit the speed allowance and availability of multiple exit / entry points to evade detection and chase from LEAs. Nevertheless, ANF always displays utmost resolve in pursuit of drug bandits.
In this context, ANF has foiled two drugs trafficking attempts in which the criminals flagrantly violated motorway rules, resorted to evasive deceptive turns on Motorways and threw the narco-packets along the roadside to evade detection and flee. However, consequent to ANF’s efforts, the drug carrying vehicles were successfully seized and two accused were apprehended at Salim Interchange and Lahore respectively: –
Seizure of 48 Kgs Hashish at Salim Interchange.
On information of drug trafficking attempt by a DTO from Peshawar to Lahore via Motorway in two vehicles, ANF initiated surveillance at different locations on motorway, starting from Kallar Kahar. The efforts led to the identification of a suspected Honda Civic car, which was chased. However, near Kala Shah Kaku, the drug carrier became aware of the surveillance and made a quick deceptive directional change towards Islamabad in order to evade interception. The vehicle started heading back towards Islamabad, however, due to effective deployment of surveillance teams, the suspected car was again picked up near Pindi Bhattian while plying towards Islamabad. The pursuit continued uptil Kallar Kahar, where the suspect again made another deceptive directional turn towards Lahore, to again thwart the surveillance team. The car was eventually intercepted by ANF team at Salam Interchange. Meanwhile, the driver of the car, namely Sardar Ali attempted to flee the scene. However, ANF teams successfully apprehended him in the nearby fields. During the search of the vehicle, 48 kgs Hashish was recovered.
Seizure of 55.2 Kgs Hashish and 6 Kgs Opium at Babu Sahbu Lahore.
In continuation to its first operation conducted at Salim Interchange, SIC ANF conducted a follow-up operation during which surveillance teams identified another vehicle of the same network near Pindi Bhattian and started chasing it. However, on becoming aware of the chase, the driver of the vehicle started hurling some suspicions packets in the green areas adjacent to Motorway. Subsequently, the chased car managed to break through the ANF checkpoint established at Ravi Bridge while recklessly attempting to run over the ANF staff. However, after a hot pursuit, ANF teams successfully intercepted the vehicle at Babu Sahbu and arrested the drug trafficker. During search operation, 21 packets of Hashish weighing 25.2 kgs were recovered. Meanwhile, a search operation in the green areas on the side of Motorway near Pindi Bhattian Interchange led to retrieval of 25 packets of Hashish weighing 30 kgs and 5 packets of Opium weighing 6 kgs.
