Chaman (Syed Sardar Muhammad Khondai Bureau Chief)
The protest was called off after the government agreed to resolve issues related to the Laghari package, education, and health. The protesters had only demanded the Laghari package, education, and health facilities, but not identity cards or tazkira.
In a press briefing at FC Chaman Scouts Brigade, high-ranking government officials said that the passport regime is in place at the Chaman border and no agreement has been made with the protesters regarding identity cards or tazkira. The protesters had acknowledged that the protest against passports and travel documents had been exploited for political gains and had become notorious.
The protesters assured that they respect and recognize all laws of the state of Pakistan, including the passport regime. They also assured that they would not participate in any future protests against state laws and would oppose any elements that do so.
Regarding the Laghari package, it was said that it has been opened by Pakistan and the Laghari Union Jirga will take it to the Afghan government to open it. The state is increasing staff to facilitate passport issuance and has deployed additional NADRA staff and vans in Chaman, which have started working.
The government is ensuring the attendance of teaching staff in all educational institutions in Chaman and has started taking action in this regard. The attendance of doctors, especially lady doctors, is also being ensured in the health sector. The government will make every possible effort to resolve the daily issues of the people, especially economic issues.”
