The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced an online application aimed at aiding local farmers and suppliers, ensuring fairness and transparency in the procurement of wheat. According to the Minister for Food, Zahir Shah Toru, concerted efforts are underway to uphold fairness and transparency in the provincial government’s wheat procurement initiative. The Food Department KP has rolled out this online application to offer convenient services to local farmers and suppliers along with other provinces, enabling them to furnish information about their available wheat to the Food Department. These points were underscored by the Minister in a video statement released detailing about the app.
The minister elaborated that the online application clearly delineates all the requisites for wheat procurement for both farmers and suppliers. Furthermore, Zahir Shah indicated that starting from May 18, farmers and suppliers from other provinces will be required to supply standard wheat to the relevant procurement centers in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Terms and conditions (ToRs) of the Food Department. Prior to this, wheat procurement would be conducted based on a quota system by purchasing centers. Additionally, it was stated that wheat procurement has been initially started from local farmers in KP since May 7 of this month which will continue till May 17, with subsequent procurement extending to farmers and suppliers from other provinces. Moreover, the provincial minister highlighted that Federal and Punjab Government are replicating their application as per the directives of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, a move that is laudable and a source of pride for the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
