Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, said that environmental change is the biggest challenge of our time, and our future generations are facing severe threats from it. The destruction caused by climate change is a shared responsibility, and we need to increase awareness about it. The Prime Minister has formed a committee to oversee all matters related to environmental change. Soon, we will announce the Shehryar Award for journalists who have reported exceptionally well on environmental issues. This award will be given to journalists from all four provinces who have done excellent reporting on environmental change. The winners will be selected by the Press Club’s elected officials. The Prime Minister has also announced workshops to enhance the skills of reporters. Media can play a vital role in raising awareness about environmental issues. Romina Khurshid Alam expressed these views while addressing the distribution ceremony of the Green Journalist Awards at the National Press Club in Islamabad. Other speakers at the event included Director General of Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency, Farzana Altaf Shah, and Secretary of NPC, Nayyer Ali. Farzana Altaf Shah said that the power of the pen cannot be denied, and journalists have a responsibility to highlight societal issues. The Green Journalist Award was initiated earlier, and Aftab Iqbal was the first journalist to receive this award in 2004. We are restarting this series now. Nayyer Ali congratulated all the journalists who won awards and said that the National Press Club’s platform is always available for this purpose. She requested Romina Khurshid Alam to start a similar award for journalists from Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The winners of the Green Journalist Award included Jamal Shahid, Ali Jaber, Rana Farhan Aslam, Sajid Chaudhry, Sohail Majid Butt, Muhammad Mukhtar, Czechangez Changiz Khan Jadoon, Muhammad Awais, Akhtar Hyat, Ayesha Naz, Rozina Ali, Fozia Mohsin, Zarmina Zara, Ms. Aftab Jahan, Adil Hassan, and Zaheer Hussain Jatoi.”
