QUETTA: In a major development on economic front, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has finally hinted at paying the billions of rupees to Balochistan province, which otherwise payable against it on account of royalty for around three years, thanks to the solid stance adopted by the interim provincial government.
According to the senior high ups of the Chief Minister’s secretariat on Tuesday, the OGDCL and provincial government has agreed upon the formula of payment of the outstanding amount of royalty.
It may be mentioned here that the OGDCL had stopped payment of the royalty to Balochistan since September 2021 mainly because of the extraordinary increase in the circular debt of the power purchasing companies.
However, the caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki took up the matter of dues of the royalty at the national forum.
Then, OGDCL expressed its willingness on payment of the Rs. 12.5 billion to the province while accepting the stance of interim provincial government.
The official sources of CM secretariat informed that the payment of arrears of royalty would be made to the provincial government on monthly basis.
Meanwhile, on the important development, caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Domki said that Alhamdulillah, we remained successful in getting the province’s stance accepted from OGDCL, which was otherwise pending for last three years.
He said that the royalty is right of people of Balochistan and as such the amount to be received from OGDCL on account of arrears of royalty would be spent on the public welfare.
The caretaker Chief Minister also said that the companies working in the province are bound to make payment of the royalty in accordance with the rules and regulations.
