Sir Syed University served 500 million rupees defamation notices to Metro One News TV channel and Daily Morning News

KARACHI, August 21, 2024 – Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) has served 500 million rupees defamation legal notices through Tasawar Ali Hashmi (Advocate) to Metro One News TV channel and Daily Morning News for releasing false news against the university. According to details, Daily Morning News published news on July 22, 2024, that the business of buying and selling fake degrees is at its peak at Sir Syed University. The said newspaper has been strongly condemned for publishing false and fabricated news against the university and it was demanded in the notice to tender an unconditional apology within 07 days of receiving the notice and to publish the apology and rebuttal prominently in its newspaper.

Similarly, Metro One News TV channel in its news bulletin of July 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM broadcast the news without any proof that fake degrees are being issued in Sir Syed University and by this act; millions of rupees are being pocketed. Furthermore, the management of the university has not taken any corrective measures and seems reluctant to take any punitive actions.

Sir Syed University declared the news broadcast in the above bulletin as fabricated and false and served 500 million rupees defamation legal notices through Tasawar Ali Hashmi (Advocate) to Metro News Channel for broadcasting such false news. In the notice, it was demanded to tender a sincere and unconditional apology duly broadcast on television at a time approved by the client within 07 of receiving the notice.

Moreover, the notice clarified that there was only one instance in May 2024 when a case of fake degree came to the knowledge of SSUET and the university promptly constituted an Enquiry Committee that resulted in the dismissal of the culprits from the service. Thereafter, there was no such instance. Now after 2 months, the news is being published making it spicy, which is a malicious act and an attempt to tarnish the image of the university.

Sir Syed University is a well-reputed university in Pakistan and abroad. Presently there are 372 teachers/lecturers 615 non-teaching staff and more than 7101 students who are getting quality education in different disciplines of education. Since its establishment, approximately 25000 students graduated from the university who are serving in prestigious organizations in Pakistan and abroad.
