Sir Syed University organized Sports Gala Week

KARACHI,  – Sports Department of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology organized the 7-day SSUET Interhouses Sports Gala that included 15 sports games this year i.e. tug of war, volleyball, throw-a-ball, basketball, badminton, hockey, table tennis, cricket, futsal, arm wrestling, fitness modeling, chess, dart games, 100-meter races, and snooker. Four houses including Quaid e Azam House, Allama Iqbal House, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan House and Liaquat Ali Khan House participated in the sports gala.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Guest, CEO of Lahore Qalandar, Atif Rana said that sports activities enhance creative potential and productive capacity of the youth. The promotion and development of sports should be our first priority because sports pave way for the healthy nation. We are lost in worshipping people.
He pointed out that we are thinking to start University League that may result into a new Qalandar from here. He promised to facilitate the visit of the famous cricketer Haris Rauf to the Sir Syed University on the occasion of next super league. Also the winning cricket team of Sports Gala will be invited to see the super league matches in Karachi.
Speaking on the auspicious occasion, Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin, said that Sports Gala is a repercussion of coexistence, tolerance and brotherhood. Students from different cults and creed take part in the grand competition and played together in the matches with true sportsman spirit that is ultimately transformed into national integrity. The university also focuses on sports activities and give good facilities to the students to enhance their talent and win competitions. He urged stakeholder to take interest in promotion of the games and to patronize sports. Sir Syed University is organizing not only the university’s events but also managing to hold the sports events for Higher Education at national level. Winning or losing doesn’t matter in sports, it is the sportsman spirit that counts.
Director Sports HEC, Javed Ali Memon said that Sir Syed University provides ample opportunities for students to participate in co-curricular activities. Sir Syed University constantly engage their students in sports activities and their contribution towards promotion of sports is remarkable in this region.
Earlier, presenting welcome note, Registrar SSUET, Cdre. (R) Syed Sarfraz Ali SI (M) said that the sports events showcase the collective talent of the youth rather than recognizing winners. Games give you confidence, strength and enhance physical productivity. It teaches you how to work in harmony with other people to work as a consolidated unit.
Noted anchorperson, Yahya Hussaini of GEO Super said that academic institutes are not taking keen interests to grow sports activities. However, Sir Syed University is doing a great job in this regard.
Presenting vote of thanks, Dean of Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aamir, said that education and sports are compulsory to each other. You can never expect productive or fruitful results without providing sports facilities to the youth.
The event was attended by the Dean Faculty of Civil Engineering & Architecture, Prof. Dr. Mir Shabbar Ali, Dean Faculty of Computing & Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif, Convenor Sports Qazi Nasar Abbas, Director Sports SSUET Mubashir Mukhtar, Former Hockey Olympian, Muhammad Ali Khan, Secretary of Sindh Olympic Association, Ahmed Ali Rajput, Secretary of Sindh Vollyeball Association, Shahid Masood, Secretary of Sindh Karate Association, Hameed Baluch, Chairman KHA, Gurlfraz Khan and others.
