Sir Syed University organized a faculty workshop to empower engineering educators

KARACHI,  – The Biomedical Engineering Department of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) organized a faculty workshop on “Empowering Engineering Educators: A workshop on Outcome-based Education and Bloom’s Taxonomy for Effective Teaching in Engineering”. The Workshop Trainer was Dr. Inam ul Ahad, Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator at APT Research Centre I, Biodesign Europe, School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Dublin City University, Ireland.

Dr. Inam ul Ahad said that think about what you want to teach to your students. Basically, you are moving towards the green system, a sustainable system. Sustainability can be achieved by the use of digital technology. These technologies are leading to digital transition. There are a lot of changes in this period, like working from home. To cope with the advancing technology it is important to blend the methods of teaching and learning with digital technical tools and services.

Speaking on the auspicious occasion, Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin said that Earlier, students were left with only the option of attending classroom to learn. Now learning has become dependent on technology and online and virtual learning is the trend of today’s learning system. The educational curriculum needs to be designed in a way to prepare the students academically and professionally with an overall personality development to cope with the global challenges. Faculty needs to be trained according to the contemporary demands of modern education. Sir Syed University practices the continuous exercise of organizing workshops, seminars, and relevant training sessions to update the faculty with the latest trends in education.

Dean, Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering said that the workshop is timely organized and we are going towards improvement. Continuous improvement is very important. Biomedical engineering has taken the initiative to achieve academic excellence in terms of improving our skills using Bloom’s taxonomy.

Presenting a vote of thanks, the Chairperson of the Biomedical Engineering Department, Dr. Sidra Abid Syed, said that Outcome-Based Education is an educational model in which curriculum and assessment focus on student learning. Bloom’s taxonomy is actually a classification system for learning which is based on 3 psychological domains – cognitive, affective, and psychomotor.
