KARACHI, November 18, 2024 – The Department of Telecommunication Engineering at Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) hosted a highly engaging IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) and Membership Drive. The event attracted a large number of undergraduate students from various departments, showcasing the growing interest in professional development through IEEE.
The program was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aamir, Chair of IEEE IES Karachi and Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FoECE), who emphasized the benefits of joining IEEE. Addressing students and faculty members, he highlighted the opportunities IEEE offers for networking, skill enhancement, and career advancement, encouraging attendees to align themselves with IEEE to foster professional growth.
Veteran expert in embedded systems, green energy, and underwater communication, Prof. Dr. M. Yousuf Irfan Zia, SSUET gave an informative presentation on “Cost-effective Ocean Exploration Technologies”, while Dr. Awais Yasin from National University of Technology, Islamabad gave a comprehensive presentation on “Industry 4.0/5.0 in Pakistan along with Challenged and Opportunities”. Both talks received an enthusiastic response from the audience, underscoring the value of technical knowledge shared during the session.
The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Tariq Rahim Soomro, Rector of the Institute of Business Management and Chair of IEEE Karachi Section, as the Chief Guest. In his motivational address, Dr. Soomro inspired attendees to strengthen their ties with IEEE, emphasizing the importance of professional societies in academic and career development.
A significant highlight was the presence of Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry, S.I., a nationally distinguished professor and Guest of Honour, who proposed the establishment of a Chair of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society at SSUET. He suggested leveraging this platform to seek funding for innovative projects. Dr. Munawwar Hussain, Vice Chancellor of SSUET, enthusiastically endorsed the proposal and requested Prof. Chowdhry’s guidance in implementing this initiative.
As a token of appreciation, Dr. Munawwar Hussain, Vice Chancellor of SSUET, and Cdre. (r) Syed Sarfraz Ali, Registrar of SSUET, presented shields to the technical speakers, the Chief Guest, and the Guest of Honour. Further, certificates of appreciation were distributed among volunteer students who worked hard for arrangements of the IES Day.
The event concluded on a celebratory note with a cake-cutting ceremony marking IEEE IES Day. The cake was cut by the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Tariq Rahim Soomro, along with other distinguished guests.
The event was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Maria Ashraf, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Telecommunication Engineering.
The IEEE IES and Membership Drive at SSUET successfully fostered awareness of IEEE’s global benefits while motivating students and faculty members to actively engage with this esteemed organization.
