QUETTA: The Governor Balochistan, Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has underlined the need to maintain balance between formation of family and available resources describing it important need of the hour.
The Governor said that the thoughtful statements and research about the family planning and birth control must not be restricted merely to the stage or papers, rather concrete measures should be taken in this regard.
The Governor was speaking at a seminar organized to mark the World Population Day here on Monday.
The Advisor to Chief Minister for Environment, Naseemur Rehman Mullakhail, Parliamentary Secretary for Population Welfare, Ms. Hadia Nawaz, Secretary Population Welfare, Abdullah Khan, representatives of the civil society and people belonging to different shades of life participated in the seminar.
The Governor said that we acknowledge the efforts bade by the government to cope with the challenges of increased population and ensure implementation on the family planning. However, still there are certain challenges before us to address them.
He noted with concern that Pakistan is the fifth most populous country of the world, and said that such a huge population puts pressure on our resources, infrastructure and environment of the developing country like Pakistan.
He said that according to estimates of the United Nations, the world’s population has crossed the figure of eight billion.
Referring Balochistan, the Governor said that although population of the province is lesser than other parts of the country, but it is scattered. Undoubtedly, it is a big challenge for the government to provide basic facilities to the people, he added.
He said that we are facing certain challenges to ensure access of the people to the facilities of education, health and services of family planning especially in the backward communities.
Despite all this, it is a matter of pleasure and satisfaction for us that our population mostly comprises the young people, but there should have viable strategy to utilize their hidden potential, adding he stressed.
The Governor said that it is an admitted fact that sustainable solution to the collective issues lies in the collective wisdom. In this regard, the Governor also stressed the need to devise comprehensive strategy to control the high birth.
He exhorted the participants to play their part in development of the country and form the world, which we want consciously.
He appreciated the organizers of seminar, experts and other guests on successful seminar. He also distributed commemorative shields among the key participants and organizers.
