QUETTA: The Quetta solid waste management project was made functional here on Wednesday.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti formally inaugurated the project, which is being considered as first of its kind in the history of country.
Also present on the occasion were Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan and other high ups.
While speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister congratulated the Commissioner and his team for formulation of the solid waste management project and its implementation in short span of time.
He also appreciated the spirit and commitment of the Commissioner in this regard.
He said that the attention is being paid towards provision of basic facilities in order to lessen their hardships.
He said that we are determined to improve service delivery through good governance.
The Deputy Prime Minister on the occasion expressed pleasure over launch of the modern solid waste management in Quetta and said that the provincial government is playing active role to resolve public issues under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
Earlier, the Commissioner Quetta, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat briefed about the solid waste management project launched in Quetta by the Metropolitan Corporation in collaboration with a private company.
He mentioned that it is first project of its kind in the country under which the Metropolitan Corporation would work together with the private company for cleaning the city through multidimensional steps.
On this, the provincial government would not have to bear extra expenses, the Commissioner informed.
He said that the company would collect Rs. 300 monthly per home while it would meet remaining expenses through recycling of the waste.
The company would collect around 1600 tons of solid waste on daily basis, he told.
