LAHORE ( ): Dr. Faisal Habib Cheema, President of the Aga Khan University Alumni Association of North America (AKUAANA), visited the Emergency Services Headquarters & Academy and reviewed integrated emergency service model in South Asia. Dr. Cheema said that AKUAANA shall collaborate with Emergency Services Department for research & development for saving lives and making the community resilient. He also committed to provide assistance in conducting evidence based research and community development initiatives.
Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary, Emergency Services Department thanked Dr. Faisal and AKU team for final evaluation of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) trained for all provinces of Pakistan. He also provided an overview of operational database, which includes comprehensive monitoring system of rescue helpline, call dispatch, fleet management, tracking systems, citizen feedback, and overall performance through use of Artificial intelligence (AI) of emergency staff. Dr. Rizwan Naseer also briefed about the performance of Emergency Services, which includes rescuing over 14 million victims of emergencies since its inception in October 2004.
After reviewing the Center of National Excellence the Emergency Services Academy, Headquarters, Dr. Faisal gave his comments that “I vividly remember when roughly two decades ago, the Rescue 1122 was established. Since then, I have always heard only excellent comments from general-public. Today, during my visit, after witnessing various verticals within 1122, the amazing fervor with which the staff works and the passion of leadership, I have come to the conclusion that, so long, as visionary leadership is empowered and allowed to materialize their dreams, even developing country can elevate its standards and match with international standards. The tens of millions lives saved thus far, I hope will just be the beginning as this unprecedented department (1122) is poised long lasting impact in the future. A journey, which undoubted like myself are fully committed to helping, InshaAllah”.
Earlier, he also visited Emergency Services Academy and witnessed various specialized training activities including Fire, Rescue, Medical, Deep Well Rescue, Burn House exercises, Fire Fit Challenge, Height Rescue, Water Rescue, Swimming, and Urban Search & Rescue, along with physical fitness training. At the end, Secretary Emergency Services presented honorary shield to Dr. Faisal.
