Population Welfare Dept. making all out efforts to provide reproductive health commodities: Secretary

QUETTA: The Secretary Population Welfare Department Balochistan, Abdullah Khan, on Tuesday highlighted the importance of reproductive health, saying that the mandate of reproductive health services specifically falls under the mandate of Population Welfare Department (PWD) and the department is making all out efforts to provide reproductive health commodities in the province.
Addressing on the occasion of a one day awareness seminar titled: ‘Uplifting Ceremony of Population Welfare Programme,’ he stressed the participants to disseminate the message of the department in all corners of Balochistan.
Present among the participants were Director General PWD Muhammad Azeem Kakar, Director PMCT Naeem Khan Kasi, Director Admn Juma Khan, district officers and a large number of women participants from Balochistan.
Secretary Population Welfare was of the view that the true women empowerment lied in creating awareness among women regarding their reproductive rights, adding that the ideal of a healthy society could only be achieved through empowering women.
He said that the stunted growth among children, anemic mothers and malnourished youth are all due to lack of awareness on family planning which is a life saving intervention.
He said that PWD has been mandated this specific component of healthcare because of its high importance as it has the capacity to shape a healthy future of the province and the country.
He said that the mothers who undergo repeated pregnancies give birth to children who are weak, malnourished and are deprived of the mothers’ breastfeed which leads to phenomenon of such youth who even cannot enter the workforce owing to deficient health.
He said that though education is important for the formation of a vibrant society yet without a proper health the idea of an education society cannot be achieved. He urged the participants to disseminate the message of the department to every women in the province and be a part of the mission of the department.
Towards the end, certificate/orders were distributed among the participants of the event and the Director General Muhammad Azeem Kakar thanked all the participants for making to the event from remote corners of the province.
