Islamabad, October 30, – The Prison Reform Commission, chaired by Federal Secretary for Human Rights Allah Dino Khawaja, held its eighth meeting. Attendees included home secretaries from Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, inspectors general of prisons, and representatives from various ministries.
The commission stressed the need for a comprehensive file management system to improve prison conditions and ensure humane treatment of prisoners. Key issues discussed included overcrowding, the need for new prisons, healthcare facilities, and security concerns.
Recommendations included adopting Punjab’s healthcare model, establishing day-care centers for imprisoned mothers and children, and harmonizing prison laws across provinces.
