Pakistan Crime Data Analysis: 2016 to 2022

Islamabad: Dr. Syed Imam Kaleem, assuming the role of the session moderator, delivered a
thorough analysis of data spanning seven years, at National Bureau, that was collaboratively
compiled by him and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). This presentation was
conducted at the esteemed National Police Bureau.
During the session, the (DG) Director General of National Police emphasized the significance of
the topic and the transformative potential of data analysis for predictive policing. He highlighted
the benefits of such analyses, enabling law enforcement agencies to project future resource
requirements and devise effective measures to reduce crime rates and tackle prevalent issues.
Imran Khan, Country Director of USIP, highlighted the close collaboration between USIP and
the police on their recently introduced initiative called “Police Awaam Saath Saath.” He
emphasized that crime data analysis would enhance the efficiency of law enforcement agencies,
leading to more effective crime prevention strategies.
Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam shed light on the gradual increase in crime rates year after year. He
attributed this rise to factors such as population growth, urbanization, political instability,
weaknesses in the criminal justice system, the rule of law, unemployment, and inflation. The
recorded cases have reached a staggering one million figure. However, Dr. Imam emphasized
that the increase in crime does not imply a lack of effort from institutions; instead, it reflects the
current reality of our society. He urged the collective implementation of policies to address these
fundamental issues at the grassroots level. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of the police
in refining their response and policies concerning criminal activities.
The conference concluded with valuable insights shared by respected attendees, generating
constructive discussions and suggestions. The resulting report will be disseminated among all
police chiefs and officials, which will enable resource allocation and effective planning.
The conference, convened at the National Police Bureau, was graced by the esteemed presence
of distinguished attendees, including Mazhar Hameed, Managing Director of Police Foundation;
