Over 90 percent target of polio immunization campaign achieved in Balochistan

QUETTA: Over 90 percent target of anti-polio campaign has been achieved during last five days in Balochistan.
According to the sources of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Polio Eradication, the polio immunization campaign was launched on Monday last with the target to vaccinate over 2.6 million children all over the province.
While the immunization campaign has entered the last stages, more than 90 percent target of vaccination has been achieved, the EOC sources said adding believed that almost 99 percent target would be achieved by the end of campaign.
Over 11,000 mobile teams were engaged in the campaign for immunization of children against polio virus.
The strict monitoring mechanism was adopted for surveillance of the exercise at district level in province.
Needless to mention here is that a total of 22 cases of polio have so far been reported during the current year in Balochistan.
The surge in the polio cases has been matter of great concern for the provincial authorities.
The Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has already expressed deep concern and directed the concerned authorities to mobilize all available resources for eradication of polio virus in the province.
