LAHORE . The United Nations is planning the 57th session of the Commission on Population and Development in April 2024 as well as the 30th anniversary of the ICPD (ICPD30). A consultative meeting was held for the preparation of the statement of this session. Director General Saman Rai took a special part in the meeting. In this meeting, the 30-year initiatives and proposals for implementing ICPD’s Program of Action were reviewed. ICPD Program Since the adoption of the Action, UNFPA has supported five-year reviews of its implementation. As the 30th anniversary of the ICPD approaches, UNFPA is facilitating a review process to assess progress and consider the current situation and the future of ICPD implementation. The 30-year review (ICPD30 ) is implemented through multiple actors, events, dialogues, and platforms, involving various stakeholders. Beyond the formal intergovernmental process. The ICPD Program of Regional reviews of 30 years of implementation of the Action reflect data and insights on progress, challenges, and opportunities, collected through national surveys by Member States in their respective regions. Regional reports prepared by UN regional commissions working with UNFPA and the results of regional population conferences culminate in the global ICPD30 report, which is distributed to member states and the 79th General Assembly, the High-Level Political Forum, and the Presidency. The 30-year review of future ICPD Program of Action implementation in 2024 coincides with the 10th anniversary of the 2013 Asian and Pacific Ministerial Declaration on Population and Development, the 60-year commemoration of the first Asian Population Conference, and the halfway mark. This includes achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific.
