NAB (Balochistan) in collaboration with Sports Department, Govt of Balochistan organized multiple Inter-University Sports Tournaments. These tournaments commenced from 19th till 22nd October, 2023.The main objective behind organizing these sports tournaments was to engage young masses in these healthy activities to make them ambassadors of integrity and honesty to stand against corruption and corrupt practices.
These games consisted upon Cricket, Hockey, Badminton, Football, Futsal and Table Tennis. Female students also played separate matches like Futsal, Badminton, Cricket and Table Tennis. It is worth mentioning here that students from far-flung areas of Balochistan like Turbat, Khuzdar, Sibi, Loralai and Lasbella not only actively participated in these games but scored some top rankings.
Closing ceremony and prize distribution was held on
23rd of October, 2023 at Badminton Court Ayub Stadium, Quetta. Chief Guest of event was the Director General NAB (B) Mr. Zafar Iqbal Khan whereas Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs department Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Jamali also accompanied him as host of the ceremony. Mr. Muhammad Rashad Director A&P NAB (B), DG Sports Department and Mr. Khuram Shehzad Deputy Director NAB (B) also witnessed the event alongwith participating players, representatives of the universities and notables from sports community. Junaid Ahmed Shah and Rajab Ali Hazara, National Team football players also attended the ceremony as special guests.
Director General NAB (B) Mr. Zafar Iqbal Khan in his remarks said that engaging students in healthy sports activities can play an important role in fostering a corruption-free society. Through sports, individuals develop values such as fair play, teamwork, and perseverance, which are essential in cultivating integrity and ethics. Sports provide an avenue for individuals to channel their energy positively, promoting physical and mental health while diverting them from unethical practices. By encouraging participation in sports, communities can nurture a sense of communal harmony and promote a culture that discourages corruption and encourages merit, thereby contributing to the overall well-being of the society. He applauded to the performances of participating players, their focal persons and other allied members in these competitions and urged them to apply the NAB’s awareness message in their practical lives i.e. “Our Faith, Corruption Free Pakistan”.
Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs department Muhammad Ishaq Jamali also appreciated the efforts of Sports Department and NAB (Balochistan) for providing the platform to the students for the healthy environment through these sports tournaments. He assured that Sports Department will ensure the cooperation to NAB (Balochistan) in future for such healthy activities. It was also urged by the Secretary that such inter university tournament will be arranged every year in October with the collaboration of NAB to play role in reduction of corruption and to promote healthy activities.
Results of the runner-up of these sports tournaments were announced whereby runner-up for Mir Chakar Khan Rind University Sibi in Cricket tournament, Balochistan University of Medical and Health Sciences Quetta in Football tournament, , Sardar Bhadur Khan Women’s University Quetta in Futsal (Female) tournament, University of Balochistan Quetta in Badminton Boys Single, Table Tennis (Male & Female) and Badminton (Male). BUITEMS, Quetta in Badminton (Female) and Badminton Girls Single matches.
The University of Balochistan, Quetta won 5 x tournaments i.e. Football Tournament, Futsal (Female) Tournament, Badminton Girls (Single), Table Tennis (Female) and Badminton (Female). Students of BUITEMS University also won 2 x titles of Badminton Boys (Single) and (Doubles). University of Turbat won the cricket tournament whereas NUST University, Quetta won the Table Tennis (Male) tournaments.
At the end, the Director General NAB (B) Mr. Zafar Iqbal Khan and Secretary Sports Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Jamali distributed the gifts to the winners and runner up teams. The notables from Sports department and NAB were also given souvenirs shields in recognition of their services.
