ISLAMABAD – The National Accountability Bureau NAB has decided to reopen the investigation into the police polio scandal, which implicates the current Peshawar’s police chief, Qasim Ali Khan. According to a senior NAB officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, policemen assigned to provide security for polio campaign workers have yet to receive any funds allocated from the polio fund. Sources reveal that Qasim Ali Khan, during his previous postings in Bannu, Swat, and Nowshera, allegedly embezzled funds designated for the polio campaign. Qasim Khan has been summoned multiple times by the NAB in Peshawar to record his statement regarding these allegations. Investigations have indicated that he misappropriated polio funds and subsequently exerted pressure on NAB officials to shield himself, leading to the suppression of the inquiry against him. However, with the recent posting of new officers within the NAB, a review of old and pending inquiries has commenced, resulting in the reopening of the files related to this scandal. Qasim Ali Khan also did not respond to a WhatsApp message sent to him by the media for comments. The polio fund scandal has serious implications for the integrity and effectiveness of public health campaigns in the region. Polio campaign workers and their security details are crucial in ensuring the successful eradication of the disease, and any misappropriation of funds undermines these efforts. More details on the ongoing investigation and the specifics of the alleged embezzlement by Qasim Ali Khan are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses. The NAB’s renewed focus on this case reflects its commitment to addressing corruption and ensuring accountability, regardless of the rank or position of those involved. The full story, including more comprehensive details of the ongoing police polio scandal investigation, will be published soon.
