NA Speaker takes notice, formulates committee to investigate derogatory remarks about an officer by MNA
Islamabad August 17, 2024: The Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, expressed dismay over derogatory remarks made by MNA Iqbal Afridi regarding the attire of a female officer of the K-Electric company during the meeting of the Standing Committee on Energy on Friday the 16th August, 2024.
Taking action on inappropriate and derogatory remarks made by Member of the MNA Iqbal Afridi, about the attire of a female officer, the Speaker has established a fact-finding committee to investigate the incident thoroughly.
This special investigative committee will be chaired by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and will include MNAs Syed Naveed Qamar, Syed Amin-ul-Haque, Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar, and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri. Additionally, the committee has been empowered to include five female members from various parliamentary parties to ensure a comprehensive and balanced review.The committee will submit its report to the Speaker within 15 days.
The remarks made by MNA Iqbal Afridi during the meeting of Standing Committee on Energy sparked widespread displeasure, particularly among female members of the National Assembly, who condemned the remarks.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq reaffirmed his steadfast commitment to promoting and safeguarding the dignity and respect of women in all spheres. He emphasized that women’s contributions should be honoured, and their dignity must be protected at all cost .
