IslamAbad – Militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are spreading in different districts of the province, which led to terrorist attacks in 9 districts of the province last month.
In a report issued by the Islamabad-based think tank Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), 27 terrorist attacks were recorded in Pakistan in June, 21 of these attacks were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 6 in Balochistan. While last month the number of these attacks were 36.
Attacks on security forces have been a major target of militant groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with educational institutions, particularly girls schools, polio activists, tribal elders and political leaders targeted in recent weeks.
The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and other local Taliban groups claimed responsibility for 21 terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in June, two more than the previous month, PIPS said in its monthly security assessment report for June.
The attacks killed 28 people, including 19 security and law enforcement agencies persons.
During June 2024, a total of 6 terrorist incidents took place in Balochistan, in which 4 persons including security and law enforcement agencies were killed, 14 persons were injured.
According to the report, the security forces and the police of counter-terrorism departments conducted 5 operations against suspected militants in June, compared to 10 in the previous month, in which 17 suspected militants were killed and 3 injured.
In 5 reported operations , 4 operations took place in Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while one operation was conducted in Karachi.
