Major crackdown conducted against  narcotics in Chaman, K. Abdullah  and Pishin, says Commissioner

QUETTA: The Commissioner Quetta Division, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat has stated that major operation was conducted against the narcotics and cultivation of poppy in different areas of the province mainly Chaman, Killa Abdullah and Pishin districts.

During the operation, the narcotics and poppy of worth Rs. 1 billion were seized and destroyed, informed the Commissioner Quetta while addressing an awareness seminar on prevention of the narcotics organized at the Civil Secretariat’s auditorium the other day.

The Secretary Excise and Taxation, Government of Balochistan, Syed Zafar Bokhari, Regional Director of Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) Balochistan, Brigadier Adnan Danish, religious personalities, representatives of the civil society were present on the occasion.

The Commissioner Quetta also informed that some 60 factories manufacturing narcotics were also sealed and several persons were arrested during different anti-drug operation in various areas.

He said that no one would be spared involved in the illicit trade of drugs at all. He said that the lands of those cultivating poppy would be taken in government’s custody besides cancelling / blocking their national identity cards, local certificates and bank accounts.

The Secretary Excise and Taxation, on the occasion said that full-fledged campaign would be launched against cultivation of the poppy in province. However, he exhorted the elders, religious leaders and civil society to cooperate with the government’s institutions in the crusade against narcotics.

The Regional Director ANF also addressed the seminar and spoke at length about the overall functioning of the Force besides highlighting the importance of awareness campaign against use of narcotics.
