Major Crackdown by KP Food Authority in Peshawar: Six Hotels Sealed for poor Hygiene and Violations of Health Standards
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority launched a major crackdown on well-known hotels in Peshawar, leading to extensive operations and significant penalties. Six major hotels were sealed, and heavy fines were imposed due to extremely poor hygiene conditions and violations of health standards.
According to the Food Authority spokesperson, the inspections were carried out under the supervision of Director General Food Authority Wasif Saeed and the district administration. The Food Safety teams inspected 18 renowned and branded hotels in Peshawar. During these inspections, the teams discovered numerous health violations, including poor hygiene, lack of medical certificates for staff, use of substandard cooking oil, and expired meat and other food items. As a result, six hotels were sealed, and substantial fines were levied.
Furthermore, while detailing by the spokesperson,food samples from various hotels were collected and sent to the Food Safety Laboratory for further analysis.The spokesperson stated that these actions were prompted by public complaints, aiming to ensure compliance with health standards and the provision of safe and quality food.
Director General Food Authority Wasif Saeed emphasized that the objective of the crackdown and raids is to ensure safe ang healthy food and to protect public health. Secretary for Food Department Zarif Ulmani praised the Food Safety teams’ performance and urged the public to report such violations to the Food Authority promptly. He assured that those compromising public health would face strict action.
Minister for food, Zahir Shah Toru directed the Food Authority officials to regularly monitor food-related businesses and enforce rules and regulations without any leniency.
