Lasbela, Nov 22: Lasbela University’s Agriculture Faculty distributed free biofortified wheat seeds to farmers under the Biofortified Phase-II project. The program aimed to address iron and zinc deficiencies in the region.
The event was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Muhammad Rashid, Chairman of the Department of Agronomy, who highlighted the importance of biofortified wheat and the nutritional challenges faced by the local population.
Project focal person, Dr. Shadab Shaukat, Assistant Professor at the Agriculture Faculty, briefed farmers on the benefits of biofortified wheat and distributed the seeds. According to Dr. Shaukat, Lasbela has the highest incidence of iron and zinc deficiencies in Balochistan, and this initiative aims to address this nutritional gap.
