QUETTA: The International Labour Day was observed in Quetta and different other parts of Balochistan on Wednesday.
Different events including rallies, demonstrations and seminars were organized by different labourer organizations and labour wings of different political parties in the province.
A seminar marking the Labour Day was organized by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Labour wing Peoples Labour Bureau at the Quetta press club.
The provincial ministers and other dignitaries belonging to PPP participated in the seminar.
The PPP leaders and other participants also paid rich tributes to the labourers for their role in development of the country.
Similarly, a seminar was held under the auspices of Labour and Manpower Department, Government of Balochistan at the Noori Naseer Khan Cultural complex here.
The Minister Labour and Manpower and other senior officials of the department and the representatives of different labourer organizations participated in the seminar.
Similarly, a seminar marking Labour Day was also organized at the auditorium of University of Balochistan the same day.
The seminar was organized by the Joint Action Committee of University of Balochistan and All Balochistan Labour Federation.
The office bearers of JAC of UoB, Professor Kaleemullah Baraich and others as well as leaders of Balochistan Labour Federation including Sultan Khan and others participated in the seminar.
Besides, rallies were also taken out by the All Pakistan Workers Confederation and PREM Union in the metropolis.
All Pakistan Workers Confederation took out the rally at Sariab road while PREM Union took out the rally at Railway Station.
Demonstration was also held under the auspices of PREM Union outside the Railway Station.
The speakers and participants paid rich tributes to those killed in Chicago in 1886 while waging struggle for the rights of labourers.
The labourers’ representatives highlighted the issues being faced by the labourers at large. They demanded of the government to resolve the issues of workers paying immediate attention to them.
They also demanded to increase the wages and salaries of the workers in proportion with the inflation.
Meanwhile, the Governor Balochistan, Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar, Chief Minister, Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, provincial ministers, deputy speaker Balochistan Assembly, Ms. Ghazala Gola and other government functionaries paid tributes to the labourers in their messages issued on occasion of the Labour Day.
They vowed to protect rights of the labourers in province.
