The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority took the step of discarding 27,000 kilograms of tainted food items and 10,000 litres of beverages at a dumping site located on Charsadda Road in Peshawar. The disposal operation was carried out in the presence of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Minister for Food, Asif Rafiq, Secretary of the Food Department, Zarif Ul Mani, Director General of the Food Authority, Shahrukh Ali Khan, and other officials.
Providing details to the Minister, the Director General explained that the Food Authority had disposed of nearly 27,000 kilograms of adulterated food items, including approximately 10,000 kilograms of black tea, 10,000 kilograms of spices, 3,500 kilograms of China Salt, and various other items. Additionally, 10,000 litres of different adulterated and expired beverages, including Samansu, Mango and Zamzam juices, Rooh Afza, Soda water, and String cold drinks, were also discarded. The Director General further revealed that these food items had been confiscated by Food Authority teams during inspection raids in the District of Peshawar in the month of September.
Minister Asif Rafiq emphasized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s unwavering commitment to combat food adulteration and warned of stern action against those involved in such practices. He instructed food officials to ensure that food inspection teams closely monitor entry points into KP from other provinces, especially for food supply vehicles.
Zarif Khan, the Secretary of Food, stated, “The health and well-being of our citizens are our topmost priorities, and we cannot allow substandard and potentially harmful food products to reach consumers.” He emphasized the importance of promptly disposing of these adulterated items as a critical step in their ongoing efforts to ensure safe and healthy food for all.
Director General Shahrukh Ali Khan underscored that this decisive action serves as a strong reminder of the Food Authority’s dedication to upholding the highest standards of food safety and quality for its citizens. It also highlights their commitment to taking swift action against those who endanger public health through food adulteration.
