KP Food Authority Cracks Down on Adulterated Milk, Shuts Down 72 Dairy Businesses Across the Province

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has initiated a large-scale crackdown on milk sellers across the province following the conclusion of a milk sample collection and testing campaign. The detailed analysis report of the milk samples has led to intensified actions against milk sellers categorized in the Black and Red categories.

The Food Authority spokesperson, while releasing details of the operations, stated that food safety teams have so far sealed 72 milk-related businesses in the province. The spokesperson noted that in the Peshawar Division, under the supervision of Director General of Food Authority Wasif Saeed and Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Sarmad Salim Akram, raids were carried out, resulting in the sealing of 23 milk shops”14 shops were sealed in Mardan Division, 8 in Swat, 21 in Hazara, 1 in Kohat, and 5 in D.I. Khan”, added the spokesperson

The spokesperson further revealed that the licenses of milk sellers in the Black and Red categories have also been revoked, and heavy fines have been imposed.

Director General of Food Authority Wasif Saeed has warned that any elements involved in the heinous business of milk adulteration who interfere with official duties during further actions will face stricter disciplinary measures.

It is noteworthy that during the ten-day milk sample collection and testing drive, the KP Food Authority tested 583 milk samples from large and medium-sized dairy businesses across the province. Approximately 93% of the total samples, equating to 541 samples, were reported as substandard and hazardous to health, while only 7% or 42 samples were deemed satisfactory.

The spokesperson emphasized that the crackdown on substandard and adulterated milk sellers is ongoing, with the campaign’s aim being to ensure the provision of high-quality and pure milk to the public.
