Gilgit: Karakoram International University (KIU) organized a one-day conference on “Showcasing Climate Change, Environment and Glacier Research” under the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) II project.The conference was attended by KIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, GLOF II Provincial Coordinator Rashiduddin, climate experts, university administrators, faculty members, and a large number of students.The conference featured presentations on Glacier monitoring and modeling,Climate change impacts on agriculture and water resources,Community-based adaptation strategies.During the Addressing the inaugural session, KIU VC Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah emphasized the need for better planning and community awareness to combat climate change impacts.This critical issue requires further research and discussion, as it cannot be resolved in a short span,He said.Therefore, it’s essential that we take individual and collective actions.Earlier, Director Academics Dr. Sajjad Ali, Dr. Karamat Ali, and GLOF II Provincial Coordinator Rashiduddin highlighted the conference significance and objectives.Experts shared their views on research collaboration, policy initiatives, community engagement, climate change impacts, and mitigation strategies.
