: JUI’s Convention Against New Canals on the Indus River – Warning of Devastating Impact on Sindh’s Agriculture.in an effort to mobilize support for the success of the upcoming Sindh Bab-ul-Islam Conference, a delegation of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Sindh leaders arrived in Shikarpur, where they were warmly welcomed. On this occasion, a convention was held at the Maki Mosque, titled “No to Canals on the Indus River.” JUI Sindh leaders, including Amir Maulana Abdul Qayoom Halejvi, Acting Provincial General Secretary Maulana Muhammad Saleh Andhar, Provincial Press Secretary Dr. A.G. Ansari, Chief salar Saleem Sindhi, District Amir Maulana Abdullah Mehr, Maulana Muhammad Tayyab Mekho, Maulana Ali Sher Brohi, Maulana Abdul Bari, and Maulana Rafiq Ahmed Shar, addressed the gathering.

During the convention, the leaders warned that constructing six new canals on the Indus would completely block Sindh’s water supply at the Sukkur Barrage, leaving the people of Sindh struggling for water. They stated that according to Sharia law, no dam or canal can be built on Sindh’s territory without its permission. Furthermore, they pointed out that the people of Punjab are being misled with claims that Indus water is “wasted” as it flows downstream, while in reality, Sindh is receiving 40% less water under the IRSA Act, which is causing millions of acres of land to become barren and the delta to be destroyed. The leaders also highlighted the worsening law and order situation in Sindh, calling for the arrest and accountability of influential individuals involved in fostering this crisis. They emphasized that these tours are part of a broader awareness campaign leading up to the Sindh Bab-ul-Islam Conference on November 28 in Sukkur. The campaign aims to address key issues such as the encroachment on the Indus River’s water, increasing insecurity, and the lack of fair crop prices for farmers.
