In a vibrant celebration of literary empowerment, “Risala Tarz,” the groundbreaking feminist literary magazine, launched its inaugural edition under the theme “Girlhood is a Fever” at “The Last Word” bookshop in Lahore. Founded and led by the dynamic duo of Zara Nazir and Haani Hashim, the magazine showcases the creative prowess of Pakistani youth. The magazine’s aesthetic brilliance owes much to the creative minds of graphic designers Emaan Shahid and Amna Ali.
A diverse crowd of 150 people attended the launch, captivated by the mesmerizing open mic performances that echoed the magazine’s theme. The event also featured a writing seminar led by Sara Javed Rathore, a three-time published radical feminist and Marxist young writer. This provided a unique opportunity for aspiring artists to engage with a seasoned professional.
Remarkably, the core team behind “Risala Tarz” comprises exclusively of women aged 18 or younger, embodying the magazine’s commitment to youth-led initiatives. The event’s success resonates with the magazine’s broader aim: uplifting young Pakistani artists by providing a platform to nurture their dreams.
The fusion of music, literature, and activism underscored the significance of this literary endeavor, marking a transformative moment for the cultural landscape in Lahore and beyond. “Risala Tarz” stands as a testament to the power of youth-led initiatives in fostering creativity and catalyzing social change.
