IMPORTANT RESEARCH AND CONSULTATIVE PROGRAMME ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND FISHERIES HELD IN GWADAR

A significant research and consultative programme was held in Gwadar to discuss the impacts of climate change on coastal fisheries and the livelihoods of fishermen. The programme was organized by the RCD Council in collaboration with the South Asia Partnership Pakistan.

The programme was attended by experts, researchers, and local fishermen leaders. Senior Research Officer NIOP Ali Jan Baloch, Deputy Director Environment GDA Abdul Rahim, Deputy Director Irrigation Pazir Ahmed, Geologist and Climate Expert Hafiz Jaffar, and representatives from the Fisheries Department and Village Organizations of Union Councils Ganz, Pishukan, and Sarbandan participated in the programme.

The programme discussed the severe impacts of climate change on fisheries in coastal areas, including the decline in fish production, the effects of sea level rise on fish species, and the impacts of sea temperature on fisheries. The programme also aimed to identify solutions to address these challenges and ensure the livelihoods of fishermen.

The programme was also attended by media representatives and other stakeholders.
