A historic flag-hoisting ceremony was held at Khunjerab, the highest point on the Pak-China border, to mark the 77th Independence Day of Pakistan. Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan and Force Commander Major General Kashif Khilji (Sitara-e-Jurat) hoisted the flag at the highest point in Pakistan.
The ceremony was attended by former Governor Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan, Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Nazir Ahmed Advocate, Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Dilshad Bano, Assembly Members Amjad Advocate, Colonel (R) Ubaidullah Beg, and other dignitaries.
School children presented national songs, and a smartly turned-out contingent of Pakistan Army presented a salute. Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan addressed the ceremony, highlighting the significance of the day and the importance of the region.
The event was witnessed by a large number of domestic and foreign tourists, and was a testament to the country’s commitment to its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
