Higher educational institutions need to improve rankings besides attaining financial autonomy, stresses Governor

QUETTA: The Governor Balochistan, Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has stressed that the higher educational institutions are needed to improve their rankings along with attaining financial autonomy.
These institutions can be able to run on the path of sustainable development besides maintaining their existence.
The Governor was of the view that it would become difficult to maintain their existence for the institutions which lag behind in the financing and ranking.
It is necessary for every university to follow the rules and regulations of Higher Education Commission (HEC) in its all affairs, and the Vice Chancellors should ensure it.
The Governor expressed these views during visit to the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) here on Thursday.
The Vice Chancellor of BUITEMS, Professor Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Principal Secretary to Governor, Hashim Ghilzai, Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUITEMS, Dr. Abdul Rehman Achakzai and senior teachers of the university were also present on the occasion.
The Governor was briefed about the overall functioning of the BUITEMS.
The Governor stressed that the cooperation and partnership between the University and Industry must be kept in view in all the decisions.
He pointed out that some departments were also opened in University in the past, where there were least students.
As a result of the wrong decisions, not only the goal of academic development and expansion could not be achieved but it also increased financial burden of the university, he added.
The same carelessness was done while establishing campuses of the university. Therefore, the ground realities and especially the requirement of market should also be kept in view on occasion of the expanding departments and opening new campuses, adding he stressed.
He observed that there would not only be increase in the expenditures of universities in near future, but hefty amount would also have to be paid to the retiring employees.
Therefore, the planning should be made for funds gathering from right now, he stressed.
The Governor also stressed the need to benefit from the knowledge and experience of experts and researchers of the concerned sectors for finding new sources of income.
