High level committee formed for resolving issues of media industry & protection of rights of media persons in GB

GILGIT: The Special Assistant to Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan, Eiman Shah has stated that a high level committee has been constituted for resolving the issues of media industry and protecting rights of those associated with it including media persons for the first time in history of Gilgit Baltistan.
The committee would present its recommendations in the cabinet meeting after consultation with all stakeholders so as to prepare a comprehensive policy for resolving the issues being faced by the media persons as well as to increase their capacity besides construction of the press clubs and provision of grants for them.
The Special Assistant to Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan was presiding over a meeting held to review steps for protection of the rights of media persons and resolving the issues of media industry in Gilgit Baltistan on Monday.
It may be mentioned here that it was first meeting of the committee constituted on special directives of the Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan, Gulbar Khan.
Those who were present in the meeting were included the Secretary Information and Food, Kamal Khan, Deputy Secretary Information, Shamsur Rehman Qureshi, President of Gilgit Baltistan Newspaper Society, Raja Shah Sultan, Presidents of the press clubs and Union of Journalists of Gilgit Baltistan besides the representatives of digital media.
The Deputy Director Information Department, Shamsur Rehman briefed the meeting about legislation regarding media and the proposed recommendations for the welfare of media persons and increase in their capacity.
Later, the Secretary Information and Food said that a working group comprising representatives of all the stakeholders is being formed for taking steps to resolve the issues being faced by the media persons of Gilgit Baltistan.
Meanwhile, it was decided to hold next meetings of the committee in Sakardu and Diamer.
