Against the merger of Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council into the Allied Health Professionals Council, organizations related to the health sector across the country have formed a Grand Alliance. This Grand Alliance has been formed with the mutual consent of prominent personalities, Deans & Federation’s leaders from all over the country which will be headed by Associate Dean Nursing Aga Khan University, & President Midwifery Association of Pakistan (MAP) Dr. Rifaat Jan, Pride of Performance & Dean of The Millennium Universal College (TMUC) Prof. Raisa Gull. The aim of the Grand Alliance is to protect the rights of Nursing & Midwifery and to create an integrated administrative structure as well as to regulate financial affairs. In this regard, Grand Alliance sent protest letters to the President of Pakistan, Prime Minister, Federal Minister of Health and other relevant authorities, in which full details have been informed by highlighting the situation and demanding non merger of PMNC into AHPC. Moreover, PhD Scholar (Nursing) and Dean of Aga Khan University Prof. Dr. Salima Velani, former Dean of Aga Khan University Prof. Karamaliani, Global Icon of Nursing professions, Prof. Parveen Rahman of Sheffield University and other national & international organizations have endorsed the goals to be set for the Alliance.
In the correspondence said that the Nursing and Midwifery structure in Pakistan should be kept functional as per the prevailing rules and regulations of the World Health Organization as the PNMC has been formally recognized by the WHO. The letters further highlighted that the Government’s proposed merger could create serious disruptions to the nursing workforce, leading to a weakened body. It is worth mentioning that Pakistani nurses working abroad as a workforce that sends remittances to the country which is very important in the context of the financial problems faced by Pakistan may also be harmed. While due to this arrangement, the international organization In case of violation of prescribed health rules and regulations, difficulties may arise in the establishment of nurses serving abroad. Moreover, this system can be a major barrier for new nurses to serve abroad, so the Grand Alliance has requested all major political parties of the Government and the Opposition to stop this merger and protect the individuality of Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Counci
