QUETTA: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to launch direct Umrah flights for Jeddah from Quetta on August 6.
The direct flights between Quetta-Jeddah would be operated twice in week, stated the General Manager PIA Balochistan, Abdul Ghaffar Miankhail in an official hand out issued here on Thursday.
The flights from Quetta to Jeddah would be operated on every Tuesday and Friday, for the reservation of seats have also been started, stated the General Manager PIA.
It may be mentioned here that the Governor Balochistan, Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail had made sincere endeavours for launch of the direct flights from Quetta to Jeddah for those wanting to perform Umrah in Saudi Arabia.
In this regard, the Governor Balochistan had taken up the matter, actually the longstanding demand of people of the province with the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif during his one-on-one meeting with him (PM) during his recent visit to Quetta.
According to the official hand out, the Prime Minister had assured to the Governor that he would be hearing the good news about start of the direct flights from Quetta to Jeddah.
Afterwards, the Governor Balochistan had also asked the Chairman and General Manager PIA Balochistan to take steps for operating the direct flights from Quetta to Jeddah.
With this, the endeavours made by Governor bear fruits finally, and now all is set to launch the direct flights from Quetta to Jeddah from August.
The Governor said that the people of province would be saved from the hardships and inconvenience of travelling to Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, etc. in future with start of direct flights from Quetta to Jeddah to perform Umrah.
With this, their precious time, money and energy would also be saved, the Governor maintained.
