Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir Affairs, Engr Amir Muqam, warned on Monday that the federal government may impose Governor Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if the deteriorating law and order situation is not brought under control.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Muqam expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and governance issues in the province, particularly in southern districts and merged areas.
“The situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has become unbearable, and if it doesn’t improve, we will have no option but to consider Governor Rule,” Muqam said.
Clarifying that Governor Rule is a constitutional provision, not a political tool, Muqam emphasized that the move would be a last resort to protect the people.
“The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa deserve peace and stability, and we will take all necessary measures to ensure their safety and well-being,” Muqam added.
Muqam’s warning comes amid growing concerns about the effectiveness of the current governance structure in Kpk.
