Lahore February 26. An important meeting about the development schemes of the department was held today under the chairmanship of Secretary Tree Salman Ejaz of the Department of Population Welfare, Punjab. Director General Saman Rai and other officers participated in the meeting. Secretary Tree Salman Ejaz said that the Government of Punjab is launching a comprehensive project titled “Population Welfare Department, Punjab Ki Tithi” to increase the effectiveness and strength of the Population Welfare Department, which aims to serve the people better. Major deficiencies within the department are to be addressed. The newly constructed “Population House” will be a milestone in the construction and development of the department. The construction of the Population House is in the final stages. He said that under this plan, the various challenges faced by the PWD Secretariat, including the lack of necessary facilities and the hindrance found in the operational efficiency of the old infrastructure, should be immediately removed and adapted to the modern basis for the formulation of population policies. The important role of the department in implementation will be highlighted. Its main objectives include the establishment of a command and control center for monitoring, provision of facilities, supervision, and evaluation to increase the performance of employees. This includes strengthening IT, procurement of necessary equipment including furniture, machinery, and hardware, training staff to use IT resources effectively, and provision of monitoring vehicles to facilitate field operations.
Director General Population Welfare Saman Rai said this project will benefit PWD employees and eligible couples across Punjab. Comprehensive coverage of all districts will be ensured under this project. For timeline and budget, July 2024 to June 2024. 334.827 million will be spent for implementation over 36 months till 2027. Aligned with provincial development goals for development strategies and alignment with SDGs, the project will be the best in social infrastructure to accelerate economic growth. Promote universal access to reproductive health services and gender equality to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He said that for the importance and evaluation of the project, the impact of the project will be assessed based on provision of missing facilities, successful implementation of program activities, and achievement of family planning goals. Project completion will be evaluated by the Directorate General of Monitoring and Evaluation. Among the potential challenges of the project, technical challenges, timely allocation of resources, and compliance with government regulations will be identified as potential constraints.
