GoB released grant of Rs. 5 billion for public sector university, says Provincial Minister Education

QUETTA: The Provincial Minister for Education, Ms. Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani has stated that the provincial government has released the grant of Rs. 5 billion for the public sector universities of the province.
The Minister Education said that the financial grant has been released for the universities for current financial year 2024-25. With this, the teachers and employees of the universities would get their salaries in couple of days.
The Minister Education was speaking to media here the other day.
Ms. Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani mentioned that the issue of salaries of the public sector universities is being faced for long. However, it is unfair to set up a hunger strike camp by the teachers and employees of the Balochistan University, she said.
She pointed out that Rs. 10 billion are required for the salaries of public sector universities besides the grant of Higher Education Commission.
He said that the provincial government has increased the grant of public sector universities from Rs. 2.5 billion to Rs. 5 billion during the current financial year. The formula of distribution of grant among the universities has also been devised, she added.
The Minister Education also said that some 1800 schools are closed due to shortage of teachers in the province. The necessary measures are being taken for opening the closed schools in province, she maintained.
She said that no new recruitment of teachers has been made for last 10 years in the province.
