Gilgit-Baltistan Scrutiny Committee Takes Key Decisions on Emergency Works

Independent Report
Gilgit, August 8: A high-level meeting of the Scrutiny Committee, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, was held to review emergency works in the region. The meeting was attended by heads of all relevant departments.

The committee made several key decisions to streamline emergency works and ensure efficient use of resources. Firstly, it was decided that only schemes that fall under the category of emergency works would be considered, and others would be excluded.

Secondly, the committee defined the term “emergency” as damages caused by recent events that require immediate restoration to sustain life. Projects proposed as precautionary measures, such as flood protection works, would not be considered emergency projects.

Thirdly, the committee observed that cost estimates for emergency projects are often exaggerated and decided to ensure accurate cost estimates for future projects.

These decisions aim to ensure that emergency resources are utilized effectively and efficiently in Gilgit-Baltistan. The committee’s recommendations will be implemented immediately to address the region’s emergency needs.
