From Shikarpur Community Action for Rural Development (CARD), in collaboration with FAFEN , Community Development Foundation-CDF Governance & Transparency Network organized a Youth Convention at Press Club Shikarpur. During the event, CDF Project Coordinator Shabir Pechuho emphasized that youth are the future of society. Unfortunately, their skills are being wasted due to political and administrative inactivity and lack of opportunities.
Columnist Naseem Bukhari pointed out that there are no avenues for youth to be encouraged, trained, and entertained in our society. Card CEO Pervez Abaro announced that a “Youth Council” will be established soon to provide a better platform for the youth of Shikarpur.
Addressing the convention, civil society leader and women’s rights pioneer Apa Safia Abbasi said that youth are the capital of society; they should own the institutions. Representation of students in the management committees of educational institutions should be ensured. On this occasion, DEPD Regional Director Zahida Kakipoto said that the active role of youth and united civil society leads society towards development and prosperity.
Assistant Director of Women Development Department Riaz Soomro, Riaz Bhayo, SRDP Sultan Rind Center Of Hope Pakistan , Karam Hussain Vissar, and others expressed their views on this occasion. While the young singer Abdul Rahman Soomro sung poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
In the convention, a panel discussion was held regarding the problems of youth and their solutions, which was moderated by a talented youth and student of Sukkur IBA University, Noor Mohammad Shah. Among the panelists were Anand Kumar, a student of Sukkur IBA University, Arbab Khoso, Sheikh Ayaz University of Shikarpur student Abdul Samad Jafari, and Shikarpur Elementary College student Karam Hussain Vissar.
A Charter of Demand was presented on behalf of the youth at the convention, which stated that for the youth in Shikarpur:
1. A Youth Development Center should be established.
2. The remaining half of the women’s section in the Kadir Bakhsh Baidal Library should be completed immediately.
3. Sports opportunities should be provided for the youth.
4. Digital training should be provided to the youth.
At the end of the convention, certificates were awarded to active youth. The program was moderated by young poet Zubair Sajan.
