Independent Report
Quetta, August 3: A free hepatitis screening camp was organized at the BMC Hospital Quetta to mark World Hepatitis Day. Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology, Dr. Dawood Ghilzai, and other senior doctors examined patients at the camp.
Dr. Dawood Ghilzai stated that hepatitis is a silent killer and a significant problem in Pakistan due to lack of diagnosis and symptoms. He emphasized that the prevalence of hepatitis B and C is rapidly increasing in Balochistan, and if timely measures are not taken, it may lead to a massive surge. He stressed the need for public awareness and promoting preventive measures, as well as large-scale screening and testing.
According to the World Health Organization, Pakistan has the highest number of hepatitis patients worldwide. Medical experts warn that the use of used syringes, contaminated blood, and unhealthy food and water are major causes of the spread of hepatitis.
