FORMER BANGLADESH INTELLIGENCE CHIEF ARRESTED WHILE TRYING TO FLEE THE COUNTRY

Dhaka: In a dramatic turn of events, Major General Ziaul Hasan, the recently removed head of Bangladesh’s intelligence agency, was arrested on Tuesday while trying to flee the country. According to local media reports, an Emirates flight was forced to return to the boarding bridge at Dhaka airport, where Ziaul Hasan was taken into custody.

Ziaul Hasan was sacked from his position as Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre on Tuesday. He was a close associate of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The former intelligence chief was promoted to Major General in 2009 and served as the Director of the Intelligence Wing at the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters. His arrest has sent shockwaves through the country’s political and military establishments.
