QUETTA: The country-wide anti-polio campaign started in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan province on Monday.
The Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan formally inaugurated the immunization campaign by administering anti-polio drops to the children at the Chief Secretary’s office.
Administration of the anti-polio vaccine to the children marked inauguration of the vital campaign against the crippling disease.
Also present on the occasion were Secretary Health, Asfandyar Khan Kakar, Coordinator Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Polio Eradication, Syed Zahid Shah, EPI’s Dr. Aftab Kakar and other concerned high ups. Also attended the ceremony by the representatives of UNICEF and WHO.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary said that it has been targeted to vaccinate over 2.44 million children below five years of age during the seven-day campaign in the province.
He informed that around 11,000 teams have been taking part in the immunization campaign for the foolproof security arrangements have been made.
He said that security is not only challenge for us in Balochistan, rather in the country.
However, we are providing security to the polio teams as per our capacity, he maintained.
He urged the parents and all other segments of the society to wholeheartedly contribute in the campaign and make it successful.
It may be mentioned here that Vitamin “A” drops are also being administered to the children in addition to the anti-polio vaccine.
Meanwhile, the polio immunization campaigns were also started in all other districts of the province where the Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners formally inaugurated the campaign.
